The Jewish community in the Cayman Islands began to take shape in the 1970s when local Jews gathered to study, worship, and support each other in maintaining their heritage. Harvey and Ruth, originally from Jamaica, warmly hosted weekly Friday night gatherings in their home for many years.

Friday evenings (In High Season) Kabbalat Shabbat 6:00 - 6:40 pm.

What they offer

Chabad Cayman Jewish Community Center is a Chabad house in Grand Cayman, led by Rabbi Berel Pewzner.

There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. A kosher store is run here. There is a Judaica shop. They kosher kitchens for the community. A mikveh is available.

Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held. There is a library.

For children there is a preschool, after-school programmes, a children's club and a mother-and-child group.

Older children and young adults have a teen club, bar and bat mitzvah instruction, a bar mitzvah club, a bat mitzvah club and a young professionals' circle.

They officiate at weddings and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage.

The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners, looks after the elderly and provides humanitarian aid.

There is a women's group. Mezuzos and tefillin can be checked here.
