The Okanagan Chabad House, a home for every Jew to enhance their experience of being Jewish, to learn, to grow, and to feel welcome!

Welcome to Chabad Okanagan, a warm and welcoming Jewish centre dedicated to making the world better by sharing the warmth, wisdom, joy, and depth of Judaism with every person we have the privilege of meeting.

At the heart of Judaism is the belief that every single human is created by Almighty G‑d in the very image of His own infinite dignity and purpose, and is then endowed with their own unique soul and path in life.

Not all souls are identical. Not all people are meant to walk the same path. Judaism is passionate about the fact that the beauty of humanity is not found in sameness, but rather in people bringing their unique gifts and perspectives, and their personal strengths and light to help build a more compassionate, meaningful, complete and peaceful world.

For this reason, authentic Judaism has never centred itself around proselytizing, and is in fact opposed to trying to make everyone part of one faith.

What they offer

The Okanagan Chabad House is a Chabad house in Kelowna, led by Rabbi Shmuly Hecht.

There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. Kosher meals are available on a meal plan. There is a Judaica shop. They kosher kitchens for the community.

Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held. There is a library.

For children there is after-school programmes and a mother-and-child group.

Older children and young adults have bar and bat mitzvah instruction.

They officiate at weddings, circumcisions and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage.

The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners and looks after the elderly.

There is a women's group. Mezuzos and tefillin can be checked here. A mitzvah tank goes out from here. The building is wheelchair accessible.
