sydneyfc.org.auFriendship Circle is about concentric circles that make up a community with the shared goals of providing education, support and opportunities. Volunteers extend friendship and assistance to young people with disabilities thus, completing the circle. In return the volunteers gain communication and organisational skills plus self-confidence. More importantly, they learn to embrace differences.
People with disabilities have so much to contribute but are too often defined by what they can’t do. That leaves them lonely, isolated, and lacking opportunity. When we bring people with and without disabilities together, everyone’s lives are deeply enriched as we learn and grow from each other.
"I didn’t get a chance to see you to say THANK YOU!!!!!!! With my whole heart for telling me about the Getaway, and giving Sam the opportunity to feel independence and have so much fun. He spoke the whole way home about all the things he did and he is so proud of himself. It was the first time in six years we had a weekend to ourselves and I appreciated the time to rest very much! Thank you”
W hat we love about Friendship Circle is that it is genuine, heartfelt and makes everyone feel so included. This is especially important for kids who normally feel left out in day-to-day life. For those who struggle to make friends, this becomes so much easier at Friendship Circle. Best of all, there are so many fun activities – everyone loves it and can’t wait to go back. Yours is a very special programme and we are so thankful that you helped Will become part of it.”
