Rabbi Mendel grew up here on the south shore in Oceanside. He has a passion for Judaism, history, and helping others. Rabbi Mendel traveled to Jewish communities throughout the world to learn about the many different ways in which Jewish people unite. After receiving his rabbinic ordination
in Sydney, Australia, Rabbi Mendel moved back "home" to a place close to his heart, Rockville Centre. Rivka grew up in Melbourne, Australia, where her family has resided for over four generations. A native Aussie, Rivka has a passion for traveling, education, and of course, vegemite. Rivka has worked with special needs children and is completing a degree in education. After marrying in Melbourne, Rivka and Rabbi Mendel moved to Rockville Centre to engage with the Jewish community, and enhance Judaism in RVC in any way they can!

What they offer
Chabad of Rockville Centre is a Chabad house in Rockville Centre, led by Rabbi Mendel Gurkov.
There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. They kosher kitchens for the community.
Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held.
For children there is a children's club.
Older children and young adults have bar and bat mitzvah instruction and a bat mitzvah club.
They officiate at weddings and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage. A chevra kadisha serves the community.
The center visits patients in hospital, looks after the elderly, works with children with special needs and provides humanitarian aid.
