Chabad of Maine is a vibrant, welcoming center for Jewish life, learning, and connection across Southern Maine. Directed by Rabbi Moshe and Chana Wilansky, Chabad is dedicated to strengthening Jewish identity, nurturing community, and sharing the warmth, joy, and depth of Judaism with every Jew — regardless of background, affiliation, or level of observance.
Rooted in the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, our mission is simple: to bring light, meaning, and belonging to every Jew in Maine. We believe that every person is a world, every mitzvah matters, and every act of kindness ripples outward to uplift our entire community.
From immersive holiday experiences and creative children’s programming to adult learning opportunities and pastoral care, Chabad of Maine serves as a hub of Jewish life for families, individuals, students, and seniors. Our programs include:

Chabad Lubavitch of Maine is a Chabad house in Portland, led by Rabbi Moshe Wilansky.
There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. They kosher kitchens for the community.
Classes run regularly.
For children there is after-school programmes and a children's club.
They officiate at weddings and funerals. A chevra kadisha serves the community.
The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners and looks after the elderly.
