A Mezuzah for Your Home
A mezuzah is a small parchment scroll containing words from the Shema, handwritten by a specially trained scribe. It is placed on the doorpost of a Jewish home as a reminder of our faith, heritage, and connection to G-d.
A Few Things to Know
The basics about the Mezuzah
What's Inside?
A kosher mezuzah contains a parchment scroll with the first two sections of the Shema, handwritten by an expert scribe. The scroll is placed inside a protective case.
Where Does It Go?
A mezuzah is generally placed on the right side of the doorway as you enter, near the upper third of the doorpost. Bathrooms are among the doorways that do not require a mezuzah.
Why Have One?
A mezuzah reminds us that Jewish life is part of our everyday lives. It is a reminder of our faith, our heritage, and G-d's presence in our homes.
