Rabbi Shmuly and Mushka Begun established Chabad of Tierrasanta in 2024, alongside their daughter, Leah. In February 2025, their family grew with the birth of their son, Mendel.
Rabbi Shmuly was raised in Cheviot Hills, California, and Mushka is originally from Mt. Olive, New Jersey. Together, they bring a wealth of experience from their work with Jewish communities across the globe to create a local space where everyone feels at home and can connect to their heritage in a real, meaningful way.
We proudly serve the Tierrasanta, Kearny Mesa, and Serra Mesa areas. This includes providing vital support for Jewish patients and families at the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center when it matters most.
Chabad is built on the idea that while we all have different levels of observance, there should always be a place for every Jew—no labels, no affiliations. We are here to foster a sense of community, enhance the Jewish experience, and provide opportunities to learn and enjoy Judaism at every age and stage of life.

What they offer
Chabad of Tierrasanta is a Jewish community centre in San Diego, led by Rabbi Shmuly Begun.
Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals.
Classes run regularly and one-to-one study can be arranged.
Older children and young adults have bar and bat mitzvah instruction.
The center visits patients in hospital, serves military personnel, looks after the elderly and provides humanitarian aid.
