עמותת חושים פועלת למען פיתוח וחיזוק זהות יהודית בקרב אנשים חרשים וכבדי שמיעה ולבניית קהילה חזקה וגאה בשורשיה היהודים. מטרת העמותה הינה להנגיש את היהדות ולהופכה לחיה, נגישה, מרתקת ובעלת ערך לקהילה שלנו. ההנגשה נעשית באמצעות חשיפת אנשים יהודים חרשים וכבדי שמיעה לפעילויות וחוויות יהודיות, ליופי של המורשת היהודית העשירה ולפיתוח מנהיגות.
מנכ"ל העמותה, הרב יהושע סודקוף, הוא אחד מארבעת הרבנים החרשים היחידים בעולם ומהווה דוגמא אישית למנהיגות חרשית יהודית. כל הפעילויות שלנו נערכות בשפת הסימנים ובנוסף, גם מובטחת נגישות לקהילה הרחבה השומעת באמצעות מתורגמנים לשפת הסימנים.
אנו מאמינים כי לכל אדם חרש יהודי מגיעה הנגשה וגישה ישירה ליופיה של המורשת היהודית העשירה.
כל אדם חרש יהודי ראוי שבביתו תועבר המורשת היהודית בשפת האם שלו – במקרה זה, שפת הסימנים. לראשונה, אנשים חרשים וכבדי שמיעה יכולים להשתלב באופן ישיר ונגיש במגוון פעילויות הקשורות ללוח השנה היהודי, טקסים יהודים ועוד.

What they offer
Chabad for the Deaf Community is a Chabad house in Rishon Leziyon, led by Rabbi Yehoshua Soudakoff.
There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. They kosher kitchens for the community.
Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged and public lectures are held.
For children there is a Hebrew school.
Older children and young adults have bar and bat mitzvah instruction.
They officiate at weddings and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage.
The center visits patients in hospital.
