Jewish Community Center in Thornhill, ON, led by Rabbi Zalman Aaron Grossbaum.

It was in the year 1974 that Rabbi and Mrs. Zalman and Esther Grossbaum arrived in Toronto to undertake the newly established Chabad Lubavitch organization. Starting with a modest building on the corner of Bathurst and Edinburgh Drive in North York, Rabbi and Esther Grossbaum ventured out to bring the light and warmth of Judaism to the streets of Toronto.

What they offer

Chabad Lubavitch Of Southern Ontario is a Jewish community centre in Thornhill, led by Rabbi Zalman Aaron Grossbaum.

There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. They kosher kitchens for the community. A mikveh is available.

Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held. There is a library.

They officiate at funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage. A chevra kadisha serves the community.

The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners, works with children with special needs, distributes food packages and runs a free loan fund.

There is a women's group. Holiday programs run through the year, hands on. Mezuzos and tefillin can be checked here. The building is wheelchair accessible. They publish. There is a Torah phone line. They produce television and radio programs.
