Rabbi Berel Gurevitch was born in Brooklyn, New York. After completing his Jewish studies in Israel, Canada and Argentina, he received his Rabbinical ordination in 2014. Passionate about creating Jewish community, Berel spent time doing outreach work and teaching in New York, Argentina, Los Angeles, Israel, Nigeria, Lithuania, Peru and elsewhere. He has a keen ability to connect with people of all demographics and backgrounds. Berel is a gifted teacher, experienced administrator and a great coffee date!
Chana grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Exotic Melbourne, Australia and mystical Safed, Israel were home to Chana for a number of years. The unique spirit of each city enriched her studies and deep appreciation for Judaism that resonates in the twenty first century. Chana's wisdom and warmth make connecting with her easy and enjoyable.
Chana and Rabbi Berel, along with their children, established Chabad serving the West Village and Meatpacking District in 2018 with a vision of creating a vibrant Jewish community center where all feel welcome to discover, connect, and celebrate. Chabad is proudly funded by the generosity of the local community.
Chabad is a global movement of Jewish education and community activism driven by the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Since 1951, the Rebbe's goal to reach out to every corner of the world with love and concern has unfolded dramatically, with over 3,500 Chabad centers in nearly 1,000 cities worldwide.

What they offer
Chabad West Village is a Jewish community centre in New York, led by Rabbi Berel Gurevitch.
There is a synagogue on the premises. Accommodation for guests can be arranged. There is a Judaica shop. They kosher kitchens for the community.
Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held. There is a library.
For children there is a preschool, a Hebrew school, after-school programmes, a children's club and a mother-and-child group.
Older children and young adults have a teen club, bar and bat mitzvah instruction, a bar mitzvah club, a bat mitzvah club and a young professionals' circle.
They officiate at weddings, circumcisions and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage. A chevra kadisha serves the community.
The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners, looks after the elderly, works with children with special needs and provides humanitarian aid.
