It's What's Happening! The Torah Times is entertaining, but it is no joke. Rather than just read Torah as a once-upon-a-time story, we relive Torah events, as they happen. Torah is real, here, and NOW. Let us not view Torah personalities as archaic characters in flowing robes. They and their concerns represent us, here and now in the Twentieth century. They are as current and contemporary as today's news. The Torah itself does not wish to be treated as an ancient chronicle, but as a relevant issue: The words I command you this day shall be on your heart. Torah should always be seen as new. What they offer
Chabad of the Capital District is a Chabad house in Albany, led by Rabbi Yisroel Rubin.
There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. They kosher kitchens for the community.
Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held.
For children there is after-school programmes.
They officiate at circumcisions and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage. A chevra kadisha serves the community.
The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners, serves military personnel and looks after the elderly.
There is a women's group. Mezuzos and tefillin can be checked here. A mitzvah tank goes out from here.
