Chabad Lubavitch of Upper Montgomery County website provides local information about Jewish activities, education and Jewish religious needs.

Chabad of Upper Montgomery County serves the 5000+ Jewish families in the northern and western parts of the county. Close to 90% of these families are not affiliated with any synagogue. They are primarily younger families with children looking for affordable housing.

Chabad of Upper Montgomery County started out in June 1990 in the home of Rabbi & Mrs. Sholom Raichik in Montgomery Village, MD. Several months later an office space was rented to be used for services and other activities.

In 1997, recognizing the large influx of young Jewish families into the Gaithersburg West and North Potomac neighborhoods, a property was purchased on Route 28, directly across from the new developments of Kentlands and Lakelands. The property had a small house that was used for activities, while plans were made for constructing a permanent home.

Before Passover of 2002, the beautiful new facility was opened. It houses a synagogue, classrooms, offices, social area, kitchen and a guest suite for overnight and Shabbat guests. An adjacent property was purchased as a home for Rabbi Raichik's family. Together, the two properties provide for parking and a playground.

What they offer

Chabad of Upper Montgomery County is a Chabad house in Gaithersburg, led by Rabbi Sholom Raichik.

There is a synagogue on the premises. They kosher kitchens for the community. A mikveh is available.

Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held. There is a library.

For children there is a preschool, a Hebrew school and a mother-and-child group.

Older children and young adults have a teen club, bar and bat mitzvah instruction and a bat mitzvah club.

They officiate at funerals.

The center visits patients in hospital, looks after the elderly and distributes food packages.
