Chabad of Lamorinda has become a popular center for Jews of all backgrounds who want to learn more about their Jewish roots. Chabad offers a wide variety of educational and spiritual opportunities, including Torah classes and lectures, Shabbaton dinners and an array of family and social activities. Traditional Jewish values are brought to life in a joyous, non-judgmental atmosphere.

Chabad serves all segments of the Jewish community. E veryone is welcome regardless of their personal level of religious observance. The philosophy is in keeping with the Chabad-Lubavitch approach of joy, scholarship and unconditional acceptance and love for every Jew.

Chabad is under the spiritual guidance of Rabbi Yisroel Labkowski, a warm, caring and energetic individual. The Rabbi's approach is that Torah must be presented and experienced in a modern, relevant context and made available to each individual on their own level. Rabbi Yisroel and his wife Tzipora are emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson.

What they offer

Chabad of LaMorinda is a Chabad house in Lafayette, led by Rabbi Yisroel Labkowski.

There is a synagogue on the premises. Visitors are welcomed for Shabbat and holiday meals. Kosher meals are available on a meal plan. A kosher store is run here. There is a Judaica shop. They kosher kitchens for the community. A mikveh is available.

Classes run regularly, one-to-one study can be arranged, courses from the Jewish Learning Institute are taught and public lectures are held. There is a library.

For children there is a preschool, after-school programmes, a children's club and a mother-and-child group.

Older children and young adults have a teen club, bar and bat mitzvah instruction, a bar mitzvah club, a bat mitzvah club and a young professionals' circle.

They officiate at weddings, circumcisions and funerals. Couples are prepared for marriage. A chevra kadisha serves the community.

The center visits patients in hospital, visits Jewish prisoners, looks after the elderly, distributes food packages and runs a free loan fund.

There is a women's group. Mezuzos and tefillin can be checked here. The building is wheelchair accessible.
